Location
Lleida is located in one of Europe's most fertile and productive regions.
Standing on the banks of the River Segre, halfway between the sea and the mountains and superbly connected, it is positioned as a natural staging post between Spain, the rest of Europe and the Mediterranean.
It enjoys modern transport links, above all Lleida-Alguaire Airport (the first commercial airport developed by the Catalan Regional Government to structure regional rebalancing across Catalonia, as a driving force behind the economy of the Lleida region and the Pyrenean corridor), the AVE high-speed train line and the road network: the AP-2 motorway links Lleida to the cities of Barcelona (also by highway) and Zaragoza, while the Western Corridor connects Lleida to the Ebro Delta, and the Transversal Corridor runs to the districts around Girona. This role as a crossroads will soon be supplemented by the construction of the airport in the neighbouring town of Alguaire and the Lleida-Huesca highway.
As for the city itself, a network of highways provide straightforward links to the surrounding region: the A-230 leads to the Aran and Boí Valleys, while the C-1313 runs through the inland districts as far as Seu d'Urgell and Andorra.
